"For me, great algorithms are the poetry of computation. Just like verse, they can be terse, allusive, dense, and even mysterious. But once unlocked, they cast a brilliant new light on some aspect of computing."

Study of algorithms is at the core of Computer Science. It is very significant in classification of problems and their solutions based on complexity. Analysis of algorithms provides a means for choosing an appropriate algorithm for solving a problem at hand. It also provides an insight into all aspects of computational complexity and the use, design, analysis and experimentation of efficient algorithms and data structures. The better understanding paves way for successful implementations in various scientific applications. Several algorithm design paradigms have been developed over decades for solving large computational problems.
The Workshop on Design and Analysis of Algorithms aims to empower Engineering College Teachers to teach this core topic more effectively for M.Tech students. The Workshop will focus on various advanced paradigms and approaches used to analyse and design algorithms.
The workshop is conducted by the Trivandrum chapter of ACM, as one of the initiatives by ACM India Education, in association with the Indian Association for Computer Science Research (IARCS) and Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K), Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) during April 24-29, 2015 at IIITM-K, Technopark,Trivandrum.
Course Content (Tentative)
- Various Algorithm Design Strategies
- Complexity Analysis Techniques
- Overview of P, NP Problems
- Amortized Analysis
- Network Flow Algorithms
- Geometric Algorithms
- Number-Theoretic Algorithms
- Complexity Classes in Randomized Algorithms - RP, PP, ZPP, BPP
- Graph Algorithms
The emphasis will be on problem solving, applications, motivational examples and pedagogical methods.
The workshop will relate these topics to the M.Tech syllabus of Kerala University to equip teachers to teach this course more effectively.
Who can Attend:
Teachers from Computer Science/Information Technology Departments of Engineering Colleges and individuals working in industry or R&D organisations are eligible to attend this programme.
Full-time Research Scholars are also eligible.
